As a proud native of Yucatán, Mexico, I highly recommend everyone visit this unique and special place at least once! My wife and I recently took a trip, and I’m excited to share a few of our favorite spots and some insider tips.

Our Yucatán Adventure Highlights

  • Cancún: We kicked off our trip at the Royal Cancún resort. It was perfect—not as busy, chaotic, or expensive as some of the other hotel zones, offering a great balance of relaxation and fun.

  • The Mayan Train to Mérida: We rode the new Tren Maya (Mayan Train) to Mérida, a beautiful, cultural city about three and a half hours away. I definitely recommend the train! It was comfortable, easy, and cost the same as taking the bus.

  • Mérida: I absolutely adore Mérida! It’s a safe, culturally rich city with incredibly friendly people. Travel Tip: Try to visit in October or early November. The weather is cooler, and it's generally more affordable.

  • Holbox (Pronounced "Holbosh"): The final stop was this underdeveloped, natural beach paradise. You take a ferry from Chiquila to the island, where you won't find cars—only golf carts and UTVs! The beaches may not look like Cancún, but they are far less crowded and surrounded by natural beauty.
