I grew up in Mexico up until the age of 10 so I have been familiar with the Day of the Dead since I was a little boy but interestingly (and maybe a little embarrassingly), it was not until the Disney movie Coco that I started doing an altar (“Ofrenda”). My wife & I were also motivated by my sisters doing it with their kids and felt the need to commemorate some close relatives that had recently passed away. Now every year we do an “Ofrenda.” We like it because we feel more connected with those family members that are no longer with us. Now we do one every year (LINK). If you are thinking about setting up your “Ofrenda” for the first time, doing one is really easy and simple. Essentially on November 1st and 2nd, you put up pictures of your loved ones, serve their favorite foods and decorate it in your own style. For anyone that needs help printing out pictures that they have in their phones, send me an email to rarredondo@invisioninsurance with the photos. We would be glad to print them out (we have a special printer for this) and put it in a decorative frame for you to pick up.
