A recent research study by physicists Paul Krapivsky and Sidney Redner looked into ways that drivers can save time while parking. They found that there are generally three different types of drivers:
“Meek” - A driver that tries to find a parking spot as quickly as possible...usually a little farther away from the entrance of their destination.
“ Prudent” - A driver that does try to look around for a parking spot but settles for the best parking spot available.
“Optimist” - A driver that keeps looking for that perfect parking spot near the entrance of their destination.
So which type of driver got to their destination fastest?...Krapivsky and Redner found that the “Prudent” drivers were the ones that saved the most time. The “Meek” drivers usually missed some good parking spots because they simply did not look enough and so had to spend more time walking from their parking spot to their destination. And the “Optimist” wasted too much time looking for that great spot that everyone else is looking for.
