The new auto insurance law (SB 1107) will impact a lot of drivers. Effective January 1st, this law increases the minimum insurance limits from $15,000 bodily injury per person. $30,000 bodily injury per accident and $5,000 property damage to $30,000 / $60,000 / $15,000 respectively. The positive side is that people will have better coverage to pay for accidents they cause and if they are hit by someone else, they will have more coverage available to cover their expenses. The downside is that it will also increase premiums. We are still trying to understand how the rates will be impacted but note even though the coverage doubles, the rate will not double…that is because after an accident, it’s a lot more likely to reach the first $15,000 of coverage than the additional $15,000. The revised coverage and rate will be implemented on renewals after January 1st. You will receive the renewal offer 20-30 days ahead of time so we ask that if you need help finding ways to lower the premium, please call us at (323) 773-4429 so we can assist you. Note that if you already have higher liability limits than the new minimum, you will not be impacted by this new insurance law.
