Everyone knows that insuring a teen driver can be expensive. The higher cost reflects the increased risk, but that doesn't mean you can't lower your premiums. By taking a few key steps, you can save hundreds of dollars a month.
Choose the Right Car
The type of car a teen drives has a huge impact on the premium, especially if the car requires Comprehensive/Collision coverages (what some people refer to as “full coverage”). If they are able to drive a nice, safe and reliable car that does not require that type of coverage, you can save a lot of money. Also, avoid sporty, luxury or “turbocharged” models that can lead to significant insurance surcharges.

Take Advantage of Discounts
Good Grades = Good Student Discount: Many insurance companies offer a good student discount, which can lower your premium by a significant amount—sometimes up to 25%.
Age Matters: Premiums often decrease as a driver gets older and gains more experience. For example, a driver may qualify for a "good driver" discount at age 19, which can further reduce their premium.
