Identity fraud can be a nightmare. To protect yourself, you should consider “freezing” your credit accounts. This essentially puts a hold on your credit making it harder for thieves to check your credit or take out a loan under your name. The best part is that it’s easy and FREE. You just have click on these links of the three credit bureaus (the companies that keep record of your credit) and ask each one of them to freeze it:
A downside is that if someone needs to run your credit legitimately, you have to temporarily unfreeze it with the bureau they are checking. But with the login information you created for each one, you can usually do this within a couple of minutes. In the end, this is a small cost to avoid someone from using your own credit against you.
